Because We Live Here

It’s an odd name for a business, I know. It’s the answer to a question someone asked me a long time ago. I attended a meeting of a local group of business people and entrepreneurs who were interested in working toward a more environmentally sound version of our fair city. And someone, completely innocuously, asked me what I did for work. I had a job selling popsicles at the time. And then she asked me why I was there. Why I was attending the meeting. Again, she meant no harm. She was simply curious - what could a popsicle vendor contribute to such a meeting? What could they stand to gain? And I didn’t have a response, because I never do in the moment. It takes some time for things to percolate.

But the answer was this: Because I live here. Because I breathe air and drink water and eat food in this community. Because I work here and I travel here. Because I vote here. Because I participate in this economy. Because I want my contributions to be positive, or at least fairly neutral.

The purpose of this site to connect people to resources. Environmental education resources, community science resources, soil testing resources. Because you live here. And maybe you want to participate in building the sort of community environment you want to live in. And there are people who want you to help you with that. And maybe they can be a little hard to find sometimes.

So I am indexing them, but the formatting is a little clunky and I tend to work in fits and starts. If there is a resource that is missing that you think I should include, please let me know! And if there is a resource that you are looking for, that you hope exists and you haven’t been able to find, please reach out for that too - I can help keep an eye out.
